Exchange 2010 user appear in both "mailbox" and "disconnected mailbox" without any intervention
Environment: Private cloud of Exchange services for a client - Forest "a.cloud" contains forest controller 1.a.cloud and exchange server "ex.a.cloud" - domain "x.cloud" is child domain in forest "a.cloud" - client domain "x.local" replicates groups, users and passwords to domain "x.cloud" - Exchange server has a "split permissions" configuration: the users are created in client AD and after the replication, the client creates the mailbox in EMC. Problem: in the last days two users appears in "Mailbox" and "Disconnected Mailbox" without ANY intervention (i.e. move between datastores, AD user modification, etc). Where can i see the reason of mailbox disconnection ? I see when this happened, but i can't see anywhere in event viewer why this happened. Yesterday I deleted and recreated one of them and today his mailbox is again in both places. "clean-mailboxdatabase" doesn't help...

A disconnected mailbox is caused when a mailbox is disabled. I know of no way of this happening except for a mailbox being removed (Remove-Mailbox), a user account deleted in Active Directory, or a mailbox being disabled (Disable-Mailbox). You don't have to worry about a disconnected mailbox; it'll go away on its own through deleted item recovery. You can remove it if you want, though. http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg181092(v=exchg.141).aspx Ed Crowley MVP "There are seldom good technological solutions to behavioral problems."

I know, that's why i specified that NO intervention was made on the user/mailbox (move/disable/delete). Today I discovered a problem that may be the cause, but i cannot find the cause of the problem: "Access is denied. The Active Directory resource couldn't be accessed. This may be because the Active Directory object doesn't exist or the object has become corrupted, or because you don't have the correct permissions. "

Exactly. The object was deleted or otherwise corrupted in Active Directory from what you post. This isn't an Exchange thing.Ed Crowley MVP "There are seldom good technological solutions to behavioral problems."

Hi everyone, from a lot of time this issue also is happening in my infrastructure. It's a random problem and in the two cases occurred today I've resolved executing Clean-MailboxDatabase. When it occurs the users tell me on OWA appears "Account disabled". In other case last months I must restore the mailbox from a backup. I'm thinking to open a Microsoft ticket, but someone can help before to understand this and trying to find a solution? Thanks.

Hello Fedrico I have suggest the clean-MailboxDatabase as I have already tackled this issue and fixed it in live environment. If you try accessing it in OWA and it says disabled due to its existence in Disconnected mailboxes even you have already connect it to the required AD object. Clean-MailboxDatabase remove it from Disconnected mailboxes and all works fine. This is a bug and nothing else...updates fix this issue permanently.......Thanks Prem P Rana MCSA Messaging 2003 MCSE 2003 Server MCTS MCITP Exchange 2007, 2010 Gurgaon, India http://blogs.msexchange-experts.com
